Applying to Medical School
2024-2025 Application Cycle
The medical school application process is a long and convoluted journey. For some individuals, it will start in May 2024 and end August 2025! In order to give you an idea of what to expect, we want to breakdown the different components of the application cycle.
In a nutshell, the application process is composed of three different ‘stages.’ You will first submit your primary application, which will be one common application that is sent to all schools. This primary application will need to be verified, which is accomplished by submitting your transcripts to AMCAS (more information on the verification process can be found below). Once your primary application is verified and transmitted to schools, you will begin receiving secondary applications from schools. These are school specific and can range from simple “Why do you want to attend school X” to questions that ask you for an autobiography (check out our articles about secondary applications for more information). For those fortunate enough to move further along in the process, you will then be asked to interview at a school. After that, you’ll have to find ways to keep yourself busy until you hear back from schools!
